Overview

Dulux Trade All Purpose Primer in Grey is a versatile solvent-based primer for use both inside and out. It can be applied to most wood, metal and masonry surfaces. This is a good all-round primer for general use; if you are painting highly resinous wood, galvanised steel and new plaster, a specialist primer will be required. The All Purpose primer provides excellent adhesion on wood, metal and masonry.

  • Excellent adhesion
  • Rust inhibitor protects metal against corrosion
  • Protects and seals new or bare wood

Preparation

Ensure that the surfaces to be primed are sound, clean and dry (it is particularly important that new surfaces are completely dry) and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as efflorescence, dirt, grease or wax.

  • Where necessary, surfaces should be rubbed down using a suitable abrasive paper and then dusted off.
  • Special precautions should be taken when preparing pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
  • Iron and steel - Remove all loose scale and rust by thorough scraping and wire brushing. Leave new bright galvanised metal to weather and become dull before priming.
  • Wood - Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution.

Application

We always recommend to perform a test patch on a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results.

  • Apply to prepped surfaces with a brush or roller.
  • In most situations, just one coat is necessary.
  • If you're priming metal that is badly rusted, leave to dry for 6 hours and apply another coat.
  • As with all solvent-based paints, do not use in temperatures below 5°C and do not spray.

Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin

Aftercare & Storage

Ensure that the lid is kept firmly closed at all times and store the paint upright in a dry environment, avoiding extremes of temperature
